Queensland Multicultural Awards background

Since 1990, the annual Queensland Multicultural Awards (previously the Queensland Multicultural Service Awards) has recognised community volunteers and groups whose long-term efforts in the multicultural sector have helped make Queensland a diverse and dynamic place to live, work and raise a family.

In 2005, the Awards were expanded to acknowledge how far Queensland has come as a diverse society and to recognise that multiculturalism is now an invaluable and indispensable part of Queenslanders' way of life, our economy and our sense of identity.

In 2006 the awards expanded again with the introduction of the Multicultural Achiever category and commendations to regional Queenslanders, making a world of difference.

The Queensland Government will also select five prominent Queenslanders who, through their profession, have made a significant contribution to Queensland and will be awarded with Multicultural Achievers awards or named Queensland Multicultural Champion.
